Jagdevi Sitaram Vidhimani

Jagdevi Sitaram Vidhimani, a 33-year-old housekeeping maid in Someshwar Wadi, Pune, undertook a challenging journey to Solapur during the lockdown. Relying on savings and borrowed funds, she and her family walked the entire way, informed only by neighbors.

The journey was marked by a severe lack of food, water, and shelter, leading to extreme exhaustion and fatigue. With no support available, they faced constant hardship. Upon arrival, they were quarantined without any health amenities.

Finding no decent work in Solapur, they returned to the city for employment. Jagdevi stresses the need for a clear timeline for blue-collar migrants to vacate cities before future lockdowns to avoid such severe hardships
