Savita Mirge

Savita Mirge, a 35-year-old housekeeping maid from Pune, journeyed to Gulbarga in Karnataka during the lockdown. With only her savings and no prior information except what her husband told her, she set off on foot.

They received occasional lifts but faced long walks withscarce food and water. The journey, which took 4 days, was marked by exhaustion and hardships. Upon reaching, Savita and her family were quarantined for a few days.

Finding no work in her village, she returned to the city. She received no support during this period and hopes that in future, migrants are informed well in advance before a lockdown is imposed.
